Start with the document and the destination

Tell us exactly which document you have, where it was issued, and where it will be used. Share the recipient’s written instructions if available. We can then discuss the preparation and legalisation route.

Read the guide for your document

Our document guides cover qualifications, civil registration records, police certificates, company papers, powers of attorney and passport copies. Each explains the decisions to check before sending original documents.

Common questions

What does a UK apostille do?

It authenticates the relevant signature, official capacity and seal or stamp on a document. It does not approve the contents or guarantee that the document meets every overseas requirement.

Can I choose an e-Apostille for every document?

No. The UK electronic route has exclusions, including General Register Office documents and specified police and disclosure certificates. Eligible PDFs must be electronically signed by a UK notary or solicitor.

Do all documents need notarisation first?

No. Preparation varies. Some official documents follow a different route from privately prepared papers or copies. Check what your recipient requests.

Is a translation included in an apostille?

No. A translation is separate. Ask the recipient whether it needs one, who may prepare it and whether it also needs certification or legalisation.

Can I apply to the FCDO directly?

Yes. GOV.UK provides direct online applications. You may still need professional preparation or certification before applying.

What affects the total price?

The document count, certification, legalisation route, translations and delivery can all affect the quote. Government fees and professional service fees are different.

How do I check a UK apostille?

Use the official verification service linked from gov.uk/verify-apostille. It asks for the apostille number and issue date.

Can I send original documents now?

Please contact the practice first. Agree which originals are needed and how they will be delivered and returned.
